Hair loss otherwise referred to as Alopecia is extremely common in the community and affects both men and women.

There are many possible causes of hair loss in women and men, some produce temporary hair loss, while others may have more long-term effects. Male pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia) is the most common cause of hair loss in men and occurs due to an underlying susceptibility of hair follicles to androgenic miniaturization.

At Paras Hair Transplant Clinic, we are dedicated to providing a holistic approach to hair loss Investigation and treatment. This begins with a comprehensive initial appointment that involves careful analysis of the type of hair loss, investigation of the scalp and hair follicles under direct magnification, and where appropriate, hair mineral analysis and blood tests to determine any physiological causes.

Once the information has been acquired, a very careful detailed discussion with the patient is mandatory, outlining all the available treatment modalities available at disposal. There are more long-term medical treatments which include oral medication (eg Finasteride), topical medications (eg Minoxidil), topical laser therapy, stress management, correction of vitamin deficiencies, and specialised protein shakes (eg Help Hair), to name but just a few.

When appropriate, conservative treatment can be supplemented with a more permanent surgical solution. Most people would be now aware of the infamous traditional Hair Transplant, often referred to as “Plugs”. Today, this has been replaced by the modern Follicular Unit Hair Transplant which offers as close to a natural and permanent Hair Transplant possible. This procedure involves implanting individual hair follicles from the patient’s own head into the balding areas. The Donor Hair is acquired from the back of the head.

Patients now have the ability to choose between the “Strip Method” whereby a strip of hair from the back of the head is removed and used as the Donor Hair, or the FUE or Follicular Unit Extraction method, where individual follicles are taken one by one from the back of the head and reimplanted.

At Paras Hair Transplant Clinic, a modified form of the FUE procedure is utilised. It is the No-Scalpel, No Suture technique and is referred to by our surgeon as MFUEI – or Modified Follicular Unit Extraction and Implantation.  The procedure is performed completely under local anaesthesia as a walk-in, walk-out treatment, with no intravenous sedation or intravenous painkillers.  Patients can return to their normal duties within a couple of days. There is no need for painful strip surgery or potentially dangerous sedation. The donor hair can be acquired from the back of the head.

Any surgery needs to be considered carefully. The surgeons at Paras Hair Transplant Clinic are dedicated to providing the utmost in patient care, discretion, and information. Only the best techniques are employed by our highly trained surgeons and technicians.
